About Mazzola Mardon, P.C.

The attorneys at Mazzola Mardon, P.C., have been representing organized labor for more than 50 years. The firm traces its origin to Thomas W. Gleason who founded the firm in 1955. The firm soon began to focus its practice on labor unions and Taft-Hartley employee benefit funds.

During the 1970s, the firm embarked on one of the most significant cases involving work preservation, which was twice considered by the Supreme Court of the United States under the National Labor Relations Act. The firm also handled cases before the Supreme Court involving the federal preemption of state law and the applicability of state garnishment statutes to Taft-Hartley welfare fund benefits.

The 1990s saw the firm involved in yet another major undertaking: the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements in the newspaper industry in the New York area, the most significant one involving the New York Daily News. The firm’s contributions are detailed in the book Strike! by Richard Vigilante.

Today, our practice continues to encompass virtually every aspect of labor law, representing clients before every level of federal and state court, and the national and regional offices of the National Labor Relations Board, National Mediation Board, Internal Revenue Service, United States Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the New York State Division of Human Rights, as well as various other state labor relations boards. We frequently appear in federal court in states up and down the East Coast and in various regional offices of the NLRB.
